World Meteorological Day – 23 March, 2023

The future of the weather conditions, climate and water through generations

We live on a planet on which everything is interconnected. We share the Earth that has an atmosphere and a global ocean.

Our weather, climate and water cycle knows no national or political boundaries. International cooperation has a particular importance here. This philosophy has initiated the activities of the world meteorological community since 1873 and will be the guide for translating science into services that society needs for present and future generations.

World Meteorological day, 2023 is being held during the 150th anniversary of the World Meteorological Organization. The emphasis is on past achievements, current development and future potential – from the appearance of telegrams at the end of the 19th century and forecasts intended for marine traffic, up to supercomputers and the development of space technology.

Through the years, The National Meteorological and Hydrological Services have been working continuously to collect and standardize the data that underpins the weather forecast today that we take as “for granted”. The history of data exchange at the World Meteorological Organization writes an extraordinary story of scientific vision, technological development and above all a unique system of cooperation that aims to serve the society.

This anniversary, also serves as a reminder of climate changes. The International Meteorological Organization – a predecessor organization to the World Meteorological Organization – was founded in 1873 at a time when pollution from industrial and human activities were just beginning.

As a result of heat-trapping greenhouse gases, the average global temperature is now 1ᴼ Celsius higher than it was 150 years ago. Our meteorological conditions are more extreme, our global ocean is warmer and more acidic, sea level is higher,  glaciers and ice are melting too. Changes are happening at a faster rate. Urgent action is needed to reduce emissions and ensure the survival of both future generations and our planet.

The good news is that with rapid scientific and technological progress the accuracy of weather forecasts and life-saving early warnings is greatly increased. Extensive data is exchanged freely in the wider community than ever before, and new tools including machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are available.

Significant progress has been achieved to monitor, simulate and plan global climate conditions to support the decision–making process.

Our meteorological, climate and hydrological cycle will be different in the future compared to that of the past. Time, climate and hydrological services will help us to cope with the appropriate challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

The training of the 8 candidates for obtaining an air traffic controller license continues

On February 27, 2023, the selected 8 candidates for obtaining the license  for air traffic controllers began with the  practical part of  the training  for the ADI/TWR (airport air traffic control – tower)  authorization at the GATE Aviation Training APS center in Denmark. According to the plan, this part of the training conducted in Denmark should end on 05.05.2023. We wish our candidates a successful training.

On February 22, 2023 in Ohrid, Mr. Fahrudin Hamidi, Chairman of the Management Board and Executive Director in ANS attended the signing ceremony of the multilateral Aeronautical SAR Agreement between the member countries of the Regional Advisory Committee of Aeronautical SAR (RASARAC).

Four member countries of RASARAC including the Republic of North Macedonia, The Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Montenegro and the Republic of Slovenia have signed this Agreement.

This year The Regional Advisory Committee leadership for Aeronautical SAR (RASARAC) from Republic of Montenegro passes to the Republic of North Macedonia, meanwhile, the Republic of Albania as an observer country has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation in aviation with the hope of becoming a member of this Committee in the near future.

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Blagoj Bochvarski emphasized that regional cooperation is extremely important for setting high professional standards in civil aviation.

The Republic of North Macedonia has been a member of the Regional Advisory Committee Aeronautical SAR (RASARAC) since 2016. The committee consists of representatives of the member states as Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Croatia, Republic of Montenegro, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Serbia, Republic of Slovakia and Republic of Slovenia.

M-NAV`s Participation in SouthEast ATM Summit (SEAS), Dubrovnik

M-NAV`s Participation in SouthEast ATM Summit (SEAS), Dubrovnik

Croatia Control (CCL) and DFS Aviation Services hosted the first South East ATM Summit (SEAS) held in Cavtat, on September 26 and 27, 2022. The following topics were discussed at the meeting

  • Remote towers
  • Training Opportunities
  • Airspace Management (AMC)
  • Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM)

Representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Kosovo, the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia attended the Summit where it was tackled the current and future challenges in air traffic management, the complexity and diversity of which will be increased more and more. The focus was on new technologies and services for the optimization of the European ATM Network.

This event was a result of the cooperation agreement signed at the beginning of this year by CCL and DFS Aviation Services to set the course for future cooperation in commercial business, primarily covering the areas in aviation training and consulting, as well as the implementation of joint projects for ANSPs and airports in South East Europe

CCL presented the implementation of ATCOs in-house training as well as the AMC portal, specially designed for air space management taking into consideration drone operations. DFS Aviation Services presented their activities related to the development of processes and Remote Tower Regulations, a technology considered to be the future of the aerodrome control. All participants agreed that the event is a positive momentum, hoping to grow into a traditional annual event where the experiences and ideas for regional cooperation will be exchanged.
