M-NAV Celebrating 10 Years Anniversary

This year M-NAV GOJSC is celebrating 10 years since it has been established. On 16-th of October 2008, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia passes a Decision on establishment of Government-owned Joint Stock Company for Provision of Air Navigation Services, thus separating the Air Navigation Service Provider and the Regulatory entity, Civil Aviation Agency. Following the establishment of the Company, its registration in the Central Registry and the establishment of a balance sheet, some of the employees, the fixed assets and CAA`s property were transferred to M-NAV. On 01.07.2009, the Company officially commences operating as Air Navigation Service Provider responsible for providing all air navigation services prescribed by the Aviation Act.

Backward looking in the last 10 years, M-NAV has evolved into a successful and socially responsible company meeting all aviation challenges into the area of aviation by complying with the standards and the recommended practices established by the aviation authorities such as ICAO and Eurocontrol.

M-NAV`s the greatest achievements have been associated with several important events, but what needs to be highlighted first is the continuous trend of drastic air traffic growth, particularly in recent years. During the last 10 years, since it has been established on 1-st of July 2009, M-NAV has handled 1.507.347 IFR operations i.e. international take offs, landings and overflights. Just for the purpose of illustration, in the year of 2009 124 315 operations were performed and in the year of 2018 this number was almost doubled and it is a total of 201 772 operations. In the first half of 2019, M-NAV has already handled 97 883 operations.  The Air Traffic Controllers and the other professionals in the Company actively contribute for efficient handling of the increased air traffic.

M-NAV pays special attention to the training of its personnel, To this end, there are several training centres operating in M-NAV and in which M-NAV Instructors continuously deliver theoretical and practical training to its personnel, while some of M-NAV`s employees attend trainings in reputable training centres abroad.

In order the drastically increased air traffic to be efficiently handled, recently and for the first time since it has been operating autonomously, M-NAV conducted a successful regrutation and selection of 11 candidates for Air Traffic Controllers, while using the FEAST test package for the first time. FEAST represents a test, tool that is used by  ANSPs and that helps them to select Air Traffic Controllers and to identify the most suitable candidates for the job of Air Traffic Controllers.

The core activity of the Company also covers establishment, maintenance, control and monitoring of technical aids, facilities and equipment used for providing air navigation services, the operation of which is surveyed by our engineers i.e. by CNS Division.

M-NAV continues to implement the program for modernization of the operational systems and technical equipment. In the light of this, having an aim of keeping air traffic safety at high level, M-NAV signed a contract on procuring and installing a modern air traffic control system, ATM system that will enable keeping the highest level of safety and compliance with the latest technological standards and will contribute to further capacity enhancement. Also M-NAV signed other contracts related to projects that have been already on phase of implementation in accordance with the Project on Upgrade of Macedonian Air Navigation System, funded by Loan Agreement concluded with EBRD in the month of September in 2013.

The following contracts are also signed, contract on supply, installation and commissioning of VHF radio system and microwave link, contract on supply and installation and commissioning of one Voice Recording and Replay System (VRRS), upgrade of the existing MSSR Radar installed in Ohrid, contract on Supply, Installation and Commissioning of AWOS/VOLMET/ATIS systems for Skopje Airport and one AWOS system for Ohrid Airport.

After only ten years since it has been established, M-NAV GOJSC with its commitment to continuous education and just a step away modern and contemporary ATM technology, M-NAV GOJSC is already an established and reliable air navigation service provider in the region and beyond.

New Record-breaking Number of Flights over Macedonian Sky- Updated

This summer season, for the third time M-NAV has broken the record for the number of flights over Macedonian sky! For the first time, a record-breaking number of a total of 1042 flights over Macedonian sky was recorded on 29th of June, on the 06th of July a total of 1091 flights were recorded, and for the third time with a total of 1 113 flights, 1040 over flights and 73 departures/landings from our airports in Skopje and Ohrid.

Like last year, this year’s record was also exceeded for the first time on the last Saturday of June. The previous record achieved last year on August 11th, 2018 was 1028 flights, which record was first surpassed by 14 flights, July 6th by 63 flights and now on August 10th by 85 flights!It shall be taken into account that achievement of these records did not produce a minute of delay for the users of the Airspace.

The trend of continuous air traffic growth continued in the first half of the year of 2019 as well when an air traffic increase of 18.5% of the total traffic was recorded. During the first six months of 2019, M-NAV handled a total of 97 883 operations while in the year of 2018 it handled 82 619 operations.

When compared to 2017 a growth of 34% was recorded but when compared to 2016 there was substantial growth of even 59.3%.

Regarding the total traffic, the peak month is the month of February when it was recorded a total air traffic increase of 25.7% monthly when compared to previous year.

The trend of continuous traffic growth is expected to continue throughout the rest of the year.

Maintaining a high level of professional competence and the devotion of all employees of M-NAV enabled the air traffic growth and it adds to the fact that the increasing number of air traffic has been handled with the same number of Air Traffic Controllers in the recent 10 years, but for the purpose of maintaining continuous performance we impatiently await for the new colleagues who currently undergo training.
