International cooperation
Republic of North Macedonia being situated in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula can be proud of its “M-NAV’’ Air Navigation Service Provider-, GOJSC – Skopje, which is prominent in the region for its commitment to participation and active contribution to the work of institutions and organizations at the regional and international level. With having competent personnel, following constant developments and global trends, „М-NAV“ – Skopje participates in international activities and forums that advocate and promote global development of activities in this sphere, coordinated between all stakeholders in aviation. With our commitment to proactive participation in international aviation organizations, the strengthening of bilateral and regional cooperation with all neighboring countries and participation in multilateral projects, we promulgate our role as a relevant factor in aviation in the region and beyond.
In that direction, we are committed for transparent and interactive activities within the framework of our membership in ICAO, EUROCONTROL, NATO, CANSO-as full members.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
ICAO is funded and directed by 193 national governments to support their diplomacy and cooperation in air transport as signatory states to the Chicago Convention (1944).
Its core function is to maintain an administrative and expert bureaucracy (the ICAO Secretariat) supporting these diplomatic interactions, and to research new air transport policy and standardization innovations as directed and endorsed by governments through the ICAO Assembly, or by the ICAO Council which the assembly elects.
European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL)
EUROCONTROL is a pan-European, civil-military organisation dedicated to supporting European aviation.
EUROCONTROL activities touch on operations, service provision, concept development, research, Europe-wide project implementation, performance improvements, coordination with key aviation players at various levels as well as providing support to the future evolution and strategic orientations of aviation, they support all Member States and their civil and military stakeholders (including air navigation service providers, airspace users, airports and aircraft/equipment manufacturers) in a joint effort to make aviation in Europe safer, more efficient, more cost-effective and with a minimal environmental impact.
Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO)
CANSO is the global voice of the air traffic management industry.
As the industry association, they bring the world’s air navigation service providers, leading industry innovators and air traffic management specialists together to share knowledge, develop best practice and shape the future for secure and seamless airspace.
CANSO provides safe and efficient air navigation service provision, by:
- Maintaining an international forum for developing and exchanging ideas on current air traffic management related issues
- Developing an international network for air navigation services (ANS) experts to exchange information and promote best practice within ATC
On top of that, we are constantly promoting and strengthening cooperation in the region through active participation in several regional initiatives:
GATE ONE – Regional platform of Air Navigation Service Providers of 13 countries established in 2013, in order to promote efficient АТМ, strengthening operational and technical cooperation between ANSP’s and enabling a stronger harmonized representativeness of the member states in the European decision-making process.
SECSI FRA- from 02.12.2021 the Republic of North Macedonia becomes an integral part of SECSI FRA initiative together with Austria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia Montenegro and Slovenia. The inclusion of North Macedonia in SECSI FRA allows airspace users to a better flight planning, increased efficiency, lower emission of harmful gases and reduction of the workload of the air traffic controllers.
BLUE MED FAB – A project the purpose of which is not limited to the full implementation of the Single European Sky in the territory of the member states, rather, it integrates them, in whole or partially, neighboring countries that are not members of the European Union, in order to increase АТМ standards in the region and to enable safer and more harmonized cross-border traffic between member states. On April 27, 2020, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the member states of BLUE MED FAB and the Republic of North Macedonia.
DANUBE FAB – At the 6th meeting of the Management Council of DANUBE FAB held on October 28, 2015, in Sofia, the Republic of North Macedonia acquired observer status, with which DANUBE FAB demonstrated its commitment to cooperate with neighboring countries in order to improve the European ATM network.
To achieve its strategic goals, by signing the Cooperation Agreements, М-NAV coordinates its activities with neighboring air navigation service providers through continuous cooperation to improve coordination procedures and increase the level of interoperability of systems and operational procedures.
